Spring/Summer Term 2021

Welcome back pawb!

During the Spring/Summer term Blwyddyn 5/6 will be studying the following topic:

ID - PSE - Health and Well-being.

During these 2 terms we are going to find out what makes us the people we are. We’ll meet a mysterious person and consider what traits and features give us our identity. Thinking about what makes us unique, we will write stories in which we have a new identity. We will learn about branching databases and how to create a classification system. Then, we’ll gather data about physical features, make spreadsheets and look for patterns. We’ll take part in physical activities that challenge us and measure the outcomes. While comparing photographs of ourselves with those of our relatives, we’ll decide if we share any features. We’ll create adverts and write a tribute to a friend. After investigating fingerprints and genetic characteristics, we’ll create 3-D models and design clothing that reflects our personality.

At the end of the project, we’ll think about factors that influence our personalities and bring in objects that mean a lot to us. We’ll perform shape poetry about our identities and reflect on our strengths.

Help your child prepare for their topic:

This project will make us think about our identities, personalities and how we are unique. Why not interview a member of your family to find out about their strengths, likes and dislikes? You could also work together to make a collage of clothing that reflects who you are. Alternatively, use technology to create a word cloud all about you.

Thank you once again for your continued support.

Diolch yn fawr.

Miss Fallon and Mrs Watkeys

May Half Term

There will be no home learning tasks set over the May Half Term holiday - Monday 25th May to Friday 29th May.

Instead, children will be provided with some fun actviities to carry out during this week. These activities are not mandatory and can be carried out as and when if the children wish to do so. The children have full access to each activity through our Google Classroom in the folder "May Half Term Activities".

Below are a list of activities (with links) that have been shared with the children:

1) Read a book
-"Be a Coronavirus Fighter"
-"Coronavirus - A Book for Children"
-"My Hero is you"

2) Math - "Rocket Rounding
Round to the nearest 10, 100 and whole number. Try doing it without the help of a number line.

3) Math - "Daily 10 - Mental Maths Challenge"
Choose your level and category.

4) English - "Crystal Explorers"
Use your knowledge of grammar, punctuation and spelling to solve the puzzles.

5) Math - “Guardians: Defenders of Mathematica
Add, subtract, divide and multiply your way to victory in this fun maths game.

6) Science - “Earth Squad, Go!”
You'll need to use your knowledge of the living world as you collect data and master your knowledge on plants, animals and the human body.

7) Welsh - “Meeting Friends and Family” (see link below)
What do you think they are talking about? Look at the Video Transcript afterwards to see if you were right!

8) Welsh - “Working on a Smoothies Stall” (see link below)
What smoothies did they order? What didn’t they like in a smoothie? Look at the Video Transcript afterwards to see if you were right!

9) Learn to sew a button on something
An important life skill to learn.

10) Create a "Pop-up Book"
Pop-up books are a great way to display information. You could make a pop-up book about a festival or special event, or you could make one based on your favourite topic such as dinosaurs, football or music.

11) Recycled Clothes Bunting
Bunting can make a nice decorative addition to any bedroom and is extremely fun to make. You will love cutting up old clothes and getting creative to make this colourful bunting to be displayed in your home.

12) Upcycle a Bowl
This is a fun way to recycle your old clothes by turning them into a funky bowl. This bowl will look great on the side in the kitchen, livingroom, bedroom or bathroom!

13) Mindfulness Colouring
Print off a sheet and relax whilst you colour. Even better, design your own mildndfulness colouring sheet to colour.

14) Fun Origami
Start with some very easy origami, like making a hat, and build our way up to some slightly harder models like making a triangle box.

15) Minecraft Competition
Use your imagination to build your dream museum in Minecraft. Decide how you would like the building to look and fill it with some of your favourite Museum objects. They could be anything from any of our seven museums, such as a Dinosaur, a Roman coin or a house from St Fagans!

16) Record Flipgrid message to the class (see classroom for details and the code)

17) Use your pupil voice to add to our Jamboard (see classroom for details and to access the link)

18) Complete any unfinished activities in our online classroom and "Hand in".

Diolch,
